A man who admitted stealing almost $471,000 from Stirling District Hospital in the Adelaide Hills has been sentenced to more than three years in jail.

The District Court heard that Mark Trevor Jenner, 28, had worked as an accountant at the hospital for 11 days when he began transferring funds into his personal bank account.

The Glandore man stole the money between December 2003 and May last year to feed a compulsive gambling habit he developed as a teenager.

He has been ordered to pay back the money and has so far paid almost $13,000.

Jenner has been sentenced to three years and five months jail, but will be eligible for parole in two years.
